The Lost Gardens of Heligan

Naledi arrived in London on Sunday and we headed down to Cornwall early the next morning. After a long train ride, mostly along the breathtaking coastline, we still had time to explore the Lost Gardens of Heligan. These gardens were restored by a team from the local community led by Tim Smit, who went on to start the Eden Project (next post!). The gardens are a beautiful combination of wild and manicured spaces, from ancient cycads to wild flowers and abundant vegetable gardens.

The Cornish coastline. We were lucky to have great weather for the afternoon!

Famous for enormous bounties back in the day.

An old school blackboard from slate.

Greenhouses across the estate help to grow vegetables from warmer climates.

The great nursery.

And the resourceful information centre.

A farmers shop with local produce, including a column for food miles, from "few", 12 to "lots".

A great shop full of handmade local crafts.

A list of all produce from the estate used in the menu.

Cornish ice cream, delicious!

Fish and chips at the nearby small fishing village.
