Pineapples, Surfers & Palm Trees

A day exploring O'ahu - an incredibly diverse and beautiful island! First stop Dole Pineapple Plantation. With my love for pineapples, I was in heaven. Pineapple ice cream, pineapple boats, pineapple memorabilia .... you name it!
Dole Plantation - pineapple ice cream is delicious, up there with green tea ice cream from Japan.

Also home to the largest maze in the world!

Pineapple boat making demonstration.

Pineapple Hello Kitty, Pineapple Sponge Bob Squarepants and Mister Pineapple Heads - very cool.

The yellow Pineapple Express train tour through the plantations. Inbetween the guided bits you get to listen to music like "pineapple princess", very funny though not intended to be.

Through the banana plantations as well.

Conveyor belt in the pineapple fields. Also learnt that pineapple plants only produce two fruit before they have to be replanted.

Pineapple Mark with the 'ukelele

Pineapple Jess doing the hula :)

Botanical garden on the estate.

Amazing plant that creates a small pool of water in the centre where small water lilies grow. Incredible.

From the pineapples fields we went up to the North Shore, surfing central for the islands. Incredibly laid back, sunny atmosphere - awesome surf shops and cute surfers. The notoriously big waves only came in winter so the waters were calm and sadly no surf to be found.

The drive back along the east coast was as beautiful - with dramatic mountain sides covered in carpets of lush green. Much cooler though and an almost permanent mist over the peaks.
